Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a customs clearance process take?
The time depends on the selectivity channel assigned by the DIAN (Green, Yellow, or Red). If the documentation is in order (which is our job), an automatic clearance can happen the same day. Physical or documentary appraisals can take 1 to 3 additional business days.
What documents do I need to start an import?
Generally, we require the Commercial Invoice, the Packing List, the Transport Document (BL or AWB), the signed Customs Mandate, and, if applicable, Regulatory Clearances (Vistos Buenos) or Certificates of Origin. Our team will send you an exact checklist according to your merchandise.
Why is tariff classification so important?
The tariff subheading determines the taxes to be paid (Tariff and VAT) and the legal requirements (such as INVIMA or ICA Clearances) to enter the cargo. An error in this code can generate seizure of the merchandise, readjustments, and heavy fines by the DIAN. That is why our experts carry out rigorous profiling.
